ON THE JAPANESE version of Nintendo’s website, they have added character profiles for various people in Mario and Luigi’s universe.
The latest description of Mario states that the beloved video game character is no longer a plumber. People very rarely witnessed Mario engaging in any plumbing work, yet they’re still quite surprised by this announcement.
Here’s the translation of his new bio:
The blue-collar worker who is the star of the best-selling game franchise of all time has finally turned his back on the working class, after decades of hanging around with princesses. However, he refuses to take off his old work uniform for some reason.

People insist that he has retained his old skills. Plumbing is like learning how to ride a bike, you never forget how to do it.

In reality, he probably isn’t the first plumber you’d want to call anyway.
